In the month of February, Dawn and I discovered a horrible reality. Inside the ministry guest house where we are staying, was lurking a disaster that was occurring deep down. There was a water leak that ended up destroying the entire bathroom floor, hallway, and kitchen.

When we began to pull up the floors, we discovered the issues. Under the vinyl flooring was a thick layer of black mold. The subfloor had also rotted away. It was at this moment that Jesus’ words made practical sense. Jesus said in Matthew 23:27“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you are like whitewashed tombs which indeed appear beautiful outwardly, but inside are full of dead men’s bones and all uncleanness."

If a person looked at the place where Dawn and I are living, they would have never known what was happening on the inside, underneath, and deep down. Jesus’ message to the scribes and Pharisees would be the same. The outside looked clean and painted, but inside was filthiness and rotting corpses.

Due to the limited finances, Dawn and I are doing some of the renovation. During the process, there has been a deep spiritual message. What does the inside of my life look like? Have I painted or covered up filthiness just to look good on the outside? I am now searching inside myself to see what I need to take to Jesus. I encourage you to do the same. Ask Jesus if there is hidden sin in your life needing repentance, so the inner rot can be healed.
