During the month of June I started preaching weekly at an outdoor home church. I have been teaching from the Book of Psalms, in particular the ones written by David. I choose Psalms because they are so practical for us today. The authors poured their hearts out to God, cried for help, confessed their struggles, and showed their frailty as humans. This Book is also ripe with opportunities to encounter the Heavenly Father, Jesus, and Holy Spirit in a deep and personal way.
David wrote approximately 75 of the 150 Psalms recorded in the Bible. As you study David’s life, you will see that he was a man after God’s own heart (Acts 13:22). He was also one of the fiercest warriors who has ever lived upon the earth. He did great exploits like killing a bear, lion, and Goliath the giant (1 Samuel 17:36). His ability to due these remarkable feats stemmed directly from his deep relationship with the Lord. David was one of the most passionate worshipers of God in human history.
David was a perfect example of what the Bible says in Daniel 11:32b, “...but the people who know their God shall be strong, and carry out great exploits.” David knew God like few people do. As a result of that relationship, he was made strong and carried out great exploits. As you move forward in life, really get to know God. Go beyond a head knowledge or book understanding, but get to know what God is saying, thinking, and doing. When you do, you will find the Lord will make you strong, so you can carry out great exploits.
