The month of November is famous in the United States for the national holiday of Thanksgiving. This day encourages people to reflect upon the many blessings in their lives and to be thankful for those blessings. Thanksgiving day has now passed, but there are practical life applications that we should implement into our daily lives. Let’s look at the Bible to see the importance of having a thankful heart.
When King Solomon brought the Ark of the Covenant into the Temple he had constructed, something remarkable occurred. You can read the full account in 2 Chronicles 5, but I want to draw your attention to verses 13–14 (NKJV):
13 indeed it came to pass, when the trumpeters and singers were as one, to make one sound to be heard in praising and thanking the Lord... that the house of the Lord, was filled with a cloud, 14 so that the priests could not continue ministering because of the cloud; for the glory of the Lord filled the house of God.
Here is the practical life application for us to follow: When the people praised and thanked the Lord, His Presence invaded the earthly realm. Regardless of any situation you encounter, when you put thanksgiving on your lips and praise in your heart, the Lord will inhabit your situation. When God fills the room, everything changes. Learn to live life thanking and praising the Lord. When you do, God will invade your space.
